Help! My 1994 LaSabre occasionally but suddenly cuts out while being driven at moderate speeds. All warning lights come on and the engine suddenly dies. It starts again in about a minute. At all other times it drives normally, including hard acceleration to over 100 MPH, normal idiling etc. Spark plugs, air filter, battery, and battery connections are good. Perhaps an ignition component is going out? I would appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thanksl, John D.

My 94 did that and it turned out to be the ECM. Could also be the crankshaft or camshaft sensors.

Don't forget to check for faulty connections, or a faulty ignition module! Do you have any codes?

Thanks for the suggestions of faulty connections, ECM, and crankshaft or camshaft sensors.

The problem is very intermittant (only surfaces about every two to three weeks), so I am pretty sure it would not code when running properly (99.9% of the time).

I guess I will just have to wait until the problem becomes more frequent and more eaily to diagnose.

Thanks again,

The codes would be generated when it hesitates or momentarily shuts down, not when it is running good. You may have a stored code and the check engine light is not on. I would have it checked at Auto Zone or somewhere that will do it for free.

HotZ28. Thanks for the info. I didn't know transient malfunctions could be stored and diagniozed later when the engine is running properly. I will look into getting it done.
