WTF does OBD stand for, and whats the difference between OBD0, 1, etc.?

OBD...on-board diagnostics, basically where your ecu monitors your car more, and you can diagnose problems easier by just plugging a reader into the ecu. THat gives you the data from the sensors all over the car, so you can pinpoint where things are going wrong. It also makes emissions much faster since it stores that info, so all the emissions place has to do is plug in their computer and it tells em if your polluting or not. difference in the numbers is just the generations of the system...and as far as i know the earliest car it went on were 92's...feel free to correct me where i may be wrong anyone. im by no means an expert :) .

OBD0 or pre-OBD pre-1992 cars

1992-1995 OBD1

1996-Up OBD2
