Well, being I was so rudly asked to start my own thread here it is.
I recently bought a 96 Blazer. Im having a few problems. If the truck sits overnight, it starts right up, If its warm, it keeps cranking. Thants one. It does idle a little rough at times. thats two. My big propblem is that it wont pass inspection. I keep getting Not ready when they run it. The O2 sensor heater, the evaporator unit and the EGR valve I believe. All giving Not Ready when on the machine. One of my mechanics said take the Neg terminal off for a half hour, put it back on and put atleast 60 miles on it. DIDNT WORK! I took it back today, after the 60+ miles, and now it had two new codes. Any ideas?

What were the new codes? Also, what other codes might be showing?

I hooked it up to a scanner and wasnt getting any error codes. It was whatever machine the mechanic hooked the truck up to that was saying not ready to be read. All 5 printed out as follows:
OBD MONITOR READINESS STATUS
Catalyst: Not Ready
Evaporator System: Not Ready
Oxygen Sensor: Not Ready
Oxygen Sensor Heater: Not Ready
EGR System: Not Ready
Catalyst and O2 sensor are the 2 new Not Ready status readings. The other 3 happened the first time.
The second page printed out that the 96 blazers with the 4.3L engine and the M50 trans. were subject to a recall for VCM recieved the wrong calibration and vehicles with the 4.3, 5.0 and 5.7L engines for incorrect linear EGR valves being installed on some vehicles. For the VCM recall owners were notified in June of 96 and for the EGR valve recall owners were notified in August of 97. Im now the 3rd owner of the vehicle so I have no idea if the truck was part of the recall.
Any ideas?

Tell us how you determined it was the computer if you can. Obviously you took it somewhere to have a second scan. If you elaborate a little, maybe it will help someone else.

Well, I kinda figured it was the computer. My mechanic was the one who confirmed it. He had put it on the inspection machine for the emissions test and got the same results as the previous two inspection stations. He told me the computer was going to have to be re-calibrated by a dealer. One of his vendors was the one who actually re-flashed the computer so it was actually him who had determined it was the computer. Hope this helps....
