broken power cord

hey the power cord that plugs into my deck (some sony pos that doesnt even play cds anymore that the previous ownder installed) broke. the little wire inside the connector snapped in half, bla. anyways can i replace this whole cable? i traced it and it went under the dash on the left side. does this plug in to something under the dash or does it go thru the firewall? i dont think i would want to cut, strip, and crimp a new connector on cos that would get bad power interference...i think hehe. anyways any help would be appreciated.

I have NO idea what cable you are talking about. Is this the harness from the car ?

the cable that brings the power to the head unit...heh, its an aftermarket deck.

either he's talking about the 12v constant battery wire of the 12v ignition wire:confused:

Yeah, theres no way to tell what the previous owner did man -- thats like me asking what that "little metal thing in the engine is thats sorta long and roundish in shape", no one is trying to be mean but you need to be more specific. What color is the wire? What color does it hook upto on the headunit? And did the person mearly chop the old harness off and use duct tape to patch up the mess?

ok sorry guys, i guess i thot the powercord was basically, obvious hehe.
it is a black wire, pretty thick, and i stripped it to see if i could crimp on a new connector (since the one it has broke and is effed) and it has braided copper wiring in it. it plugs into the back of the hu in a round hole. it is seperate from the harness that has all those color coded wires. the harness is fine as far as i know and no wierd mods to it. the ppl i bought it from were a late 20sumthin couple w/ kids and im sure they had sum installer do it for them. so this black wire runs from the back of the head unit, around under the dash right above the pedals (clutch, brake, gas) and is duct taped to stay up over this area. it then runs all the way to the side past the fuse box and up into the dash sumwhere. im guessing i gotta figure this out and start taking a part to dash to see where this wire runs :(

That my friend is not a power wire, it is the antenna wire :bloated:

cuz the moron that did the previous install didn't have a good ground, so the head unit is using the only ground it can find. Find the black wire coming out of the head unit, cut it off of whatever he has it attached to, and reattach it to some metal behind the dash (do not use the deck's mounting cage)

Ok, the BIG black wire is the antenna plug... the black wire paul is talking about is a SMALL wire, like all the other wires coming out of the headunit. Follow where the LITTLE black wire goes, if it goes to a bolt or something, see if it needs a few turns -- if that doesnt fix it find a new ground.
