Radio Not Working/Displaying Anything Except Backlight

I have an '89 Ranger that had its Radio ripped out prior to me owning it, I went and bought the adapters(exact to what was in the truck prior to them being cut and taken with the radio) and got a stock AM/FM Radio from a buddy's F-150 he was getting rid of. Adapters fit perfect in the back, along with the antenna. However, when I start the car/give the radio power, all that happens is that the backlight comes on, no sound, no display, no errors, nothing.
I have spent the last hour checking the wiring that I did and it is flawless. I can't seem to find what the problem is, everything is hooked in fine, just I can't get it to work at all. Is there some sort of lock on Stock radios that I have to reset for it to work with my ranger? I am clueless here but I really don't want to spend the $175 to get a aftermaket deck/with installation(because they claim it costs them sssoooo much extra since it was ripped from the dash, no harm done to the actual dash itself though)
Thanks.

OK, well, I got it to do something this morning, it now just puts out static through the speakers, still nothing on the screen but the backlight.
