Before you replace your antenna I would check the connections especially your ground.

Antennas do die, but its very rare...
are you still using your OEM radio? If so...its possible that that could have gone out.

if the antenna is bad you shouldn't have any AM reception and if there are any FM stations close by, you should pick them up although maybe not as well as you once did...

well i pick up no am stations except for the local station thats like right on the outside ofthe city and in every other car iv been in we can pick that station up 100 miles or more away, the same for the fm local station(the am and fm station are actaully the same company but jus am n fm u kno) but i cant pick up anything else except every once in a while but its for a few mins or its staticy the whole time, i did buy a new antenna bc it was only 6 bucks it kinda screwed on a lil hard but it still hasnt helped any.

ok..it sounds like you replaced the antenna mast which doesn't ever give a problem except when broken or bent badly...if your problem is antenna related it is more than likely in the antenna lead or cable...it could be the base but i'd look at the cable first...
