car alarm on exscort lx and battery probs

I need some advice I have a 1997 lx that I just got. I put in a new battery and all worked well. I have not driven or started the car for a week and now it is dead. Is there a way to disable the alarm system or even remove it on these cars? I am pretty sure this is what killed the battery. I am trying to get it on the road and this is the only problem I am having.
