Can anyone help me out with pointers on building a Sub enclosure that would replace the back seat for an 01 Tib? I am no genius when it comes to Car Audio, but I want to take out the rear passenger seats, my current heavy ass trunk fitted sub enclosure, and combine the two so I have good sound w/ less weight. With anyone's input, after I figure it out, I will put together a DIY Thread....mabye get something for the RD's stickied lol. :naughty:

using mdf to build it and then port it will give you good sound to get the best sound you would have to get the specs for the box from the sub manufacturer....what kind of pointers are you looking for? like poainters on looks, how to make it, how to attatch it to the car, all of the above/anything? give us some ideas on what you want it will be easier to help you figure it out then. oh yea and by the way mdf isnt the lightest wood around but its good for boxes

What materials to use for the box, how to attach it, port/no port, speaker face up/down....all that good stuff.

use mdf to build the box defintly port for better sound if you race i would make it so its easy to remove like latches or something then cover the box in carpet to make it look good probably use the sme thats in there or cover it in leather or whatever thats all i can think of right now i'm real tiered

Ok cool. The biggest question I have is how I go about dimensions. How much space to have inside the enclosure for lets say, 2 x 10" Subs, how big and where to have the ports and whatnot.

The dementions of the box very from which subs you put in each brand and series has somewhat different specs you can find this information online or from box or place you purchased it. Materials to use for subs are based on how handy you are, how much your willing to spend, what you want it to look like, weight/strength, and what kind of sound you are after. If your going for SPL "Loudness" I would definatly use a ported box or if you want to get creative a custom bandpass always is a nice touch but a little more tricky to build. If you are after SQ "sound quality" quick punchy bass a sealed box is always a good option. Some subs perfer one or the other so that is another thing you need to find out when looking for the specs for the volume of the box. If I were to replace the back seat of my car with a box I would probably custom fit a fiberglass box back there it is lighter then most other materials and is just as stronger if done right also you have alot more options when it comes to finishing the box you can carpet, vinyl, or sand-bondo-glaze-& paint it which I personally think is the way to go a custom matched box is quite the show piece. :sunglasse
I'm no expert either but hope it helped a little bit...
Good luck.
