Air conditioning

Guys, any suggestions on how to proceed with my air conditioner not working? I was out driving yesterday, and it was working great, then stopped over at a friend's house, and now it's not cooling. Just worked one minute and then stopping working. It's always been very good, cools down great, so I don't think it's leaking fluid, so I am really stumped. Could it be a blown fuse?

The light comes on when I press the button for the air conditioner, and it sounds like the compressor kicks in, but I'm no expert, so it may not be kicking in.

Any suggestions?
