Firebird Starter Problem

I replaced my starter and it will not crank. I tested it outside the car and the starter is good. I got it to work by splicing a wire that goes to the starter and now with the ignition switch open a touch the wire to the positive batttery terminal and the car starts. Is there a better way of getting this problem solved. I beleive that it is a problem with the anti theft system disarming my starter. Any help will be greatly appreciated. It is very annoying to have to get out of the car and start the car the way that i am doing it.

thanks again for your help,

I would run the splice off the starter and the hot from the battery to a push button switch inside the car. That way you can turn the key then hit the button, no one would know the difference. You can get those buttons at Radio Shack.
