Rear Window Defogger Switch

How difficult is it to replace the rear window defogger switch in a 99 Lesabre? I am getting power to the switch, but that is where it stops.

Are you saying that the light on the button lights up when you push the button?
If so, I can check for the relay location and a fuse for the power to that relay...

The switch lights up and runs the usual amount of time then shuts off. However, the rear window does not clear up at all during that time.

The window operates a relay which connects current that goes through a 60 amp fuse on the back of the engine compartment in the MaxiCenter.
On the LH MaxiFuse block there are 8 slots. Fuse #8 is a 60 A. which operates the power seats and the RR defog.
Do your power seats work?
The fuse is next to another 60 amp fuse for the ignition switch. So you should be able to identify which end of the row of fuses is #8. The other end #1, #2 are both 40 Amp.
You should check for voltage in at the fuse if it's not blown. Then you're down to checking at the rear window for voltage when the switch is on.

I'm having the exact same problem in my 1997 LeSabre. The light comes on, but no defrost. I can hear the relay in the passenger side footwell clicking on and off when the defogger button is pressed, the 30A fuse under the driver's side panel isn't blown and the 60A fuse in the MaxiCenter appears OK as well (the power seats work). Since the problem came on suddenly, I would suspect the relay but I wanted to see if anyone else had found a solution before getting into trim removal. Is there a fuse that should be checked in the passenger footwell along with the relay? Additionally, does anyone know the route for the rear defroster wiring from the dash to the rear window? Thanks for any help.
