How to get out the battery?

Well, my battery has been completely discharged, probably from driving too short distances combined with the fact that it seems the car charges the battery somewhat badly (have no idea why).
Anyway, I got myself a battery-charger to plug into the wallsocket, but now I'm trying to get the darn battery out of the car!
I managed to unhook the connectors, but the battery is fastened to the frame. The only thing I can manage to see is an enormous bolt in the front of it, way down, that holds a plate over the bottom of the battery. The thing is, it's more or less impossible to get hold of it with a wrench since there's no moving space, and secondly its tightened like all hell!
Is this the right one, and do I really need to get the car all the way down to a repair shop just too loosen my battery? :(
It's an Elantra '96 1.6.

Well, that's the right one. That plate holds the battery onto the tray it's sitting on. I can't remember what I used to get it off when I needed to. Maybe a socket wrench with extensions? Mine is a 2.0L, so I don't know how different the engine bay is. Good luck.

You can purchase them anywhere tools are sold. Basically it connects to the wrench where you would normally put your socket and your socket attaches to the end of that. I'm not familiar with the year of Elantra but I would say a 6" extension should be fine.
