I have a 1995 Sierra xc and when it rains it hesitates, sometimes to near stalling out. It will run smooth for awhile then sputter again. I changed cap, rotor, plugs, wires, coil and the electronic sensor in the distributor and it's still broke. HELP!

Mine is doing the same thing. I have done all that you have done including getting the throttle sensor changes and a complete fuel line and injector cleanout.
I'm still having a bit of the same problem and it is driving me crazy. The next step is to try and run a injector clean out again.
If you have solved this problem please reply.

Add the EGR valve, still no luck.

Hey I just read a thread called 99 Sierra studdering. Sounds like it is the same problem with a fix.
We will need to really clean out the injectors or possibly change them.

I spoke too soon. The EGR Valve has made a major difference. I talked to someone that explained to me that the computor has to adjust itself to the new EGR, one increment at a time. The way I drive he says it will take a little time. If I had disconnected then re-connected the battery the adjustment would have happend a lot sooner. Two mornings in a row with no studder or sputter. I don't know all the tech. stuff but I hope this info. helps.

You know I went out and got an EGR valve but decided to return it. I did not think that it would be the problem. Maybe I will try changing it out this weekend.
You talked about how you needed to disconnect the battery and reconnect to have the comp. adjust to the new valve. Is there a specific way to install the valve? Do you need to disconnect the battery first then install the valve then reconnect?

I guess the computor adjust itself as the egr gets plugged, a little at a time. When you disconnect the battery the computor will reset to normal right away instead of starting way out of adjustment. I got an after market egr and it came with about 6 different orifice sizes. The part number is used to make the proper selection, nothing on the sheet matched so I put on the 20 size. So far its working but were getting rain the next two days, I'll let you know. To answer your question I would disconnect wait a few min. and then re-connect. The EGR valve has one bolt thats a little tough to get but change-out is easy.

That is good news. Let me know how things run after the rain. I just got the part and planned on putting it on this weekend.
I started my tuck up this morning after a few days and it ran hurky jurky for the first .5 mile until it warmed up. On my way home I punched it from a dead stop and there was a dead spot and then sputter then finally take-off.
Hope these are the same symptoms you experienced so I have a good chance on fixing this annoying problem.
Thnx for the help

Well a little studder this morning but nothing like before. Same guy tells me to clean the IAC and check vacuum lines. I game for almost anything so I'll try it.

I just installed the EGR. I guess I'll need to drive it a bit to work it in? It still is hesitating when I accelerate.
One thing I noticed when I was installing was what appeared to be a missing vacuum line. Where the line from the EGR valve routs and connects to its junction I noticed that a port, on the junction, next to where the EGR line connects is open. It seems that there would be another line or cap on that port.
Can you tell me if you have the same thing or an additional line and if so where does it rout? I have a 5.7 liter.
Not sure how to add an image. I was going to take a picture and attach it to the thread.

Well I broke down and took it to get serviced! This may sound like a bull story but the machanic put it on the machine and could not find anything. He check for codes and found nothing. Of course it was a nice sunny day and the truck was running fine. He then fogged the motor with water and got it to break down slightly. He found one plug wire right side near the firewall, not fully locked on the plug! I've driven in the rain twice and no problems. I had changed the wires. it was hard for me to believe that I would have the same problem. The spark tracking to ground in the rain was all it was! I have a lot of new parts in it now, it should run good for awhile. Maybe you should check yours again? Good luck.
