first get an LSD, next tune your suspension to have little body roll, next find a comfortable low stance with appropriate spring rates(ie no bumpsteering pancakes) then go out and purchase the "drift bible" from option videos and learn to drift.

first get an LSD.
Thoughts on LSDs from Me.
-If you cant drift an Open your a suckass and shouldnt be paying 900$ for a clutch type
- If you pay 900$ for an LSD for a drift only car your wasting your money
-VLSDs do not count as True Limited Slips
-Welded Diffs work perfect for drifting (blah Blah "Turn In" Blah Blah)
next tune your suspension to have little body roll.
Eh, if your just starting out you prolly wont want a stiffly sprung car. the reason the pros run huge Roll Stiffness is for quick transitions and a predictable slide. starting out on a car with Good Coilovers and Anti-Roll bars should be tougher since the car will be transfering weight more quickly. Id say as long as your shocks and bushings arent blown to shit... stock will be fine.
(ie no bumpsteering pancakes)
OMG OMG Bump Steer! - if you plan on being a cry baby about bumpsteer when you go low get bump steer adjusters. (Ie Tie Rod Ends)
on a further note - WTF is a Bumpsteering Pancake?
then go out and purchase the "drift bible" from option videos and learn to drift.
This Being the most retarded statement I have ever seen in my life. spend 30$ on a played out DVD with info that can be found everywhere on the net or spend 30$ getting a bunch of suckass tires and doing it yourself.
I Pray to god your kidding but your lack of an "LOL" and other generic magazine comments tells me otherwise.
All you need to drift is
A RWD Car with basic maintence..................Check
Enough Power to Spin 2nd around a corner....Check
Some Balls/Lots of money or a drifting event... Its around find it.
***Extra Points awarded for practicing drifting at autcrosses since they get their panties in a bunch***
at an event... Dont try to do it like a pro your first time with 100mph e-brake entrys your first time and if way late power over exits is all you feel comfortable with then go with it. You'll get used to it and likely you can get someone there with more experience tell you how you should practice to get better.

you should learn how to performance drive first.
learn racing lines and such, and drive your car to learn when the car transitions to oversteer (parking lot or at an evernt, track whatever). dont try to drift on purpose, find out when your car starts to drift from pushing too hard.
then go practice techniques like donuts and 180 turns, etc

find an autocross event near you, enter it for a cheap price, learn the limit of your car, since here all you'll be hitting is a cone or two, then you can try sliding and modifying.

driftk1d is right, be able to take a proper line through a corner and then learn to slip the end while maintaining that line....

first i didnt say go installing double wishbones or anything i just said a nice ride height thats lower than stock and has less body roll i didnt say create a d1 car and try and drift. but i feel that this argument of learning to drift stock being better is best summed up like surfboarding...NO its not the same thing. why not just learn the short board first instead of learning on some easier bigger board and then relearn it for a performance model. learning to drift on stock shocks and springs is a pain you get way to much body roll which equals more weight on the top half of your car is moving(maybe just a strut bar set would be better than say sway bars) but going on stock just means your body moves a crapload and puts more weight on 1 tire in particular increasing your chances of blowing it out.
and a bumpsteering pancake is something most of the homeboy ricers like to do....which means u drop ure shit on the ground and look stupidly low, goto your local highschool ull see a few

If its the same thing then why suggest spending for mods before you even know if you like it or for that matter... even know how to do it? you wont have to relearn anything once you do suspension. you'll just have to react quicker. all the basic techniques are the same... in any form of driving.

One of Formula D's higher qualifiers is on stock suspension and VLSD (granted hes never placed in the mainday but you pretty well have to be a seeded works driver to do that).
but going on stock just means your body moves a crapload and puts more weight on 1 tire in particular increasing your chances of blowing it out.
Weight Transfer Mainly depends on Static weight, Tire Grip and suspension geometry. all a stiff / low suspension will do is transfer weight quicker. (technically more weight will be transfered due to the longer roll moment) body roll will aslo make flaws in your driving more apparent...
Tires pop when drifting from a combination of running em down to the cords and the high heat building tire pressure. load has very little to do with it.

180sx + Low enough to need to notch frame > * > Wheel Gap

ok and what kind of conditions do you think driftings creates on a tires. add an increased load on 1 tire instead of 2 and your bound to improve your chances of a blow out.
as for finding out if u like drifing....man who wouldnt...i only have this pos fwd eclipse and i still love sliding through corners ..hell i love it.

There will be a slightly higher chance of blowing out yes - but with coilovers. the Point your missing is that your transfering the same amount of weight. its just less Visible and quicker. Then theres the Roll Moment, lowering a car make it longer so the weight being transfered has more torque acting on the tire. so Coilovers would be more likely to blow tires.
But if its the weight of the car thats blowing tires you've got hoes.

Welll Quicker is a negatable term. its not a about quantifieble amount, i have a stock suspenseion and granted im not doing any continous slides with my accellerator holding them ( cause im just sliding with an ebrake and weight transfers) but on stock spongy suspension the body roll EATs as much Lateral G's as it can because of the body roll. no on coilovers and strut/roll bars well setup thats going to be to be a shitload diffrent and not just "quicker" almost the full drift of my slides the body spends bent over. now im guessing with proper suspension it wont roll at all. ERGO the weight is not transfering when the fucking body is leaning to the outside. it just means more body eight is pushed on that outside tire trying to eat as much lateral G's as it can. i know this is REALLy stupid cause arguing online is dumb. Yes i dont doubt u know more about cars. but this is simple physics

no, arguing online is smart. shows you at least have something to say instead of just looking like a dumbass.
dude, you need to learn the car stock, theres no 2 butts about it

Yeah... Go Pass Physics before you try and school me on it.
the weights still there... use a steel rod as a shock and the weight would still act on it, there would just never be enough weight to compress it. I say quicker becuase instead of having busted weak springs to slow the energy the weight will all go right to the tire.
your confusing body roll as weight transfer.

i think this thread is done.
the easiest answer: find someone/someplace to teach you. there is no online manual for how to drift/drive it's something that takes firsthand experience. if you can't afford a drifting class, do some autoX racing to find your cars limits, and practice drifting in a big parking lot.
