Which Michelin

We want to keep our 2001 Silverado with 20,000 miles on it one more year before we trade it off but I am wanting to put new tires on it now. I am wanting the quietest and smoothest riding tire I can get. Does anyone know if the Michelin LTX M/S or the Michelin Cross Terrain tire would be the best choice. I have tried the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza and they were junk.


Also I want to replace the original red Tenneco shocks to get a better ride. Has anyone tried the Rancho RS9000X shocks and if so will they give a smooth ride or should I go with G.M. shocks for a regular 4X4?

I have had Michelin XCX/APT tires on my 2000 K1500 for over 30k miles and they are still going strong. Some road noise, it doesn't drive as nice as when it had passenger tires on it and the ride is a little bumpy because of increased air pressure but I pull a horse trailer most weekends and they are perfect for me.

I have the michelin LTX m/s put them on at 35,000 and now have 109000 miles and I sgtill have a year left on them...I am pretty tough on my tires but these are great.....P.S. you may want to get them from SAM's club, they have the best prices and balancing, installation, and hazard ins is all covered for 11.99 per tire and if they do not get them installed in 1 hour the 11.99 per tire is waived.....so do what I did.....have somebody drop your tuck off at 11:00am on a saturday.....they wil never get it don in an hour.....but you wil have it by 5:00pm....good luck.....oh yeah....my next set wil be the same...LTX M/S....you may have to get them ordered but weel worht the wait...

The LTX's I put on my '01 4x4 are a little noisier and a lot bumpier than the stock P rated Generals. I wouldn't invest in a tire that expensive if I was going to keep it for just a year. Have you looked at new truck take-offs? You can get some good deals on eBay

I have been checking E-Bay and I can get another set of alloy wheels for not too much money. I have talked to our Michelin dealer and he said he would make me one heck of a deal on a set of LTX M/S and a set of Cross Terrains that way I can find out for myself. The Cooper Discoverer H/T tires we have on it now have less than 6,000 miles on them but the rubber is getting hard and so the ride is getting harder. The truck is kept in a garage so I do not know why they are getting so hard. Before I buy the Michelin does anyone know of a good tire that would be softer? I want to experiment with this truck so I will know what tires to put on our new F-150 when we get it next year.

The big question is...what kind of driving do you do? The factory P tires give the best ride because they are meant to go on a passenger car. If you haul or pull anything you need a tire with more plys in the sidewall. Also LT (light truck) tires can have more aggressive tread designs which means more noise. With stiffer sidewalls and more pressure you get more bounce.
I have the XCX/APT http://www.michelinman.com/catalog/tires/MichelinXCXAPT.html?tiretype=6&tire=9 which is a little different then the M/S tires. Actually they are a lot different. The M/S will give you more of a car like ride. If you use your truck like a car you will be just fine...if you carry or haul something then consider something stronger.
