need some help

hi all,

really need some help with this. i was omw to work this morning and my
serpentine belt broke. so anyway i get off the hwy and have to drive a little to get to a side street to park it. open the hood to see belt is broke not too big of a deal so i go to the parts store get a new belt and borrow belt tool. get the belt changed out no problem but now it wont start wht am i doin wrong or wht do i need to do. the motor is not siesed it will still turn over just acting like its not getting fule. i hope im explaining this clear enough. any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'd day after running that far without an alternator would be killer to a battery. Try giveing it a charge or boost.

ok tried jumping it off with my other car and engine would just turn over acting like it wasnt getting fuel or spark. releived the pressure on fuel line to see it would recharge and it did. im not sure how to check if it is getting spark. is it possible when i threw serpentine belt i could of threw it out of time??

Yeah, you're right. It could have caused the crank pulley to separate from the timing ring (part with the aluminum teeth on it on the backside of the pulley). The serpentine belt could have hit the crankshaft position sensor and knocked it out of time. If the timing belt had broken it would have killled the engine immediately so you know it's not that. Check that the bottom pulley is on tight with the key inserted in the crankshaft and that the aluminum ring with one tooth missing isn't sticking out from the back of the pulley 2 or 3 inches. The teeth should be flush with the crank pulley. Sometimes the timing ring (harmonic balancer?) separates from the pulley causing misalignment and serpentine belt destruction. They are just pressed together and if they separate they can mess up your ignition timing.. I've got a 97 and this is what happened to me.

That's all very good advice and I'm not knocking it at all. But before you do any of that put a new battery in the car. I've jumped mine several times ove the years and it didn't work but for some reason when the juice is in the battery hooked directly to the car it starts right up. Your car wouldn't have overheated without a serpentine belt but it would run down the battery as stated before so try that first it's much easier. Then tear into it if necessary but do the easy stuff first.
