2000 Sierra - Service Engine Soon

I searched the threads and couldn't seem to find anything pertaining to my issue. I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 and the Service Engine Soon light is one. I had auto zone read the error for me and it came up with code 442 which is a small leak in the emissions system. I replaced the gas cap 3 days ago and the light still has not cleared. I am not absolutely sure that code 442 has anything to do with the gas cap but thought it was a good start. Can anyone tell me what 442 actually means? Does anyone know how I can get the service engine soon light to clear? Thanks for any information in advance.

A bad or loose gas cap can set a 442. The code will clear itself if the problem is fixed. Sometimes it takes a few trips (engine must warm up) to reset on its own.
A code reader can also be used to clear the code.
I had a vacuum hose break on one of my cars and it threw a code (can't remember now what it was) but I read the code and found the broken hose. It took 3 or 4 days and the code cleared on it's own (I wanted to make sure that was the problem).

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I will give it the weekend and see if it will clear. I have to get the parking brake fixed anyways to pass state inspection. So if it hasn't cleared by the time I get that working then I will see if I can get auto zone to clear it for me. Thanks...
