Real life Taurus mpg?

To get better mileage I'm considering getting a late model Taurus to replace the Windstar I'm currently driving. I drive about 600-700 miles a week and most of that is highway travel. What kind of mpg can I realistically expect to get?

My 98' Sable has the 24valve Duratec engine. I drive 124 miles everywork day with 80 of that on the highway. I average 27 mpg every tank. A co-worker has the same year but a taurus and not with the duratec motor, he said he averages 29 mpg, but he tends to drive 10 mph higher on the highway than I do. When my wife drives it just around town when she has it for a week or so sometimes, no highway miles, it gets 21 mpg on that tank full.

I have a 2002 SES with Vulcan engine. Around town driving I average about 21 mpg.

Not possible! I think you're not calculating your numbers right.

I have a 2000 Vulcan, but I get about 16-18 around town. I don't do enough highway driving to measure that, but from reading elsewhere, mid 20s is about right.

I have a 98 SES with a 3.0 Vulcan engine with 100K and I average around town 20mpg, when on the highway long distance I get 26-28 with A/C going. Been very pleased with the mileage.

It seems the gentleman that gets 40MPG on the highway may have just used the wrong term. He describes his odometer reading in kilometers and then his mileage in miles. Maybe he gets 40KM/gallon

well I didn't mean to offend you...I think atc2be stated it correctly what it was that you actually meant to write. 40KM/gallon

well...maybe I wasn't right. If he's using imperial gallons instead of standard...i know there's a difference...it would definitely change...i think 21 is realistic miles to one us gallon in the city, and prob 28 on the highway which is pretty close to the EPA estimate (20 and 28 on the "non-24V engine". I just bought a 2002 and haven't gone through a whole tank so we'll see...

its prolly close to the mid 20's. i have a 93 ford taurus and i get about 23 mpg. but there are a lot of things that can effect that i.e.-air filter, oil filter, fuel injectors, etc. so noone can say for sure but the ave is the mid 20's.

My '99 Taurus 24V gets maybe 21-22mpg on the highway at 70mph. I keep the tire pressures at 36 psi and I run Mobil 1 5/30 synthetic oil. The car only has 50,000 miles on it and I keep it very well maintained. I can only conclude the horrible mileage is due to the mandated ethanol blended gasoline we have here in MN.
