engine buildup questions

I have a 92 non V-tech f22a. I wanted to get the engine rebuilt and get the head ported and polished. I'm not going to get any kind of forced induction so I wanted to get some High compression pistons, over sized valves and a more aggresive cam shaft. I live in califorina where the emissions laws are really tough. Do any of you think that with this kind of mod, that I would have trouble passing smog.

There, now that thats cleared up. The f22a1 engine doesnt really have much potential unless you go FI. I recomend swapping for a H22a. You'll have the same amount of power as the f22a after the mods, more actually. So you really should look into it, its pretty easy, a direct bolt in, and theres tons of information about it in these forums.

:1: your car will be pretty quick with an H22.

Quicker than if you would build your F22.. and you'll pass smog with it.

the mods you want come farther down the road...dont bother replacing internals unless you're gonna go forced induction.
maybe swap a head entirely for a DOHC, or a ported and polished intake manifold with bigger throttle body...but thats even after an intake, header, exhaust, and underdrive pullies.
i have a 1992 F22a non-Vtec (type S) with an AEM Custom Short-Ram Intake, Ractive 4-2-1 Header, Pacesetter MONZA Exhaust, Accel Spark Plug Wires, NGK Iridium Spark Plugs, RC Fuel Injectors, Arospeed Fuel Pressure Regulator, Weapon R Throttle Rotor, MSD SCI+ Ignition Control
MSD Blaster SS Coil, MSD ProCap...and all these still havent gotten her to the point of the H22 Vtec...so save your money and do the swap and then start building the engine.

The f22 with basic mods will never run with the H22. Also, its s-type, not type-s.

I doubt a F22 would even run with a stock H23..

Yeah, no doubt about it...

You can get a H22A series engine WITH a transmission shipped for about $1500.00.

That's a lot cheaper in general than building a F22 OR H23...
