95 transmission slips

I bought a 1995 thunderbird and the transmission slips like crazy when stoped and trying to get back into first gear it really slips bad and im worried that it will go out soon and i dont know what to do.

check fluid and if ok prepare for new or rebuilt trans

could be a worn intermediate band, like the others have said, it'll probably need to be pulled out and rebuilt if the band is worn excessively.
