Remove clean and reinstall your EGR valve with a new EGR gasket.

We will let it slide this time!!!! Just kidding buddy. Use throttle body cleaner on the egr, soak it for some time if possible, a little aggitation and you should be able to get it as good as new. Good luck to you!

Take an old toothbrush and TB cleaner and spray inside the holes to clean it and scrub it. Also check the holes in the block for any carbon buildup.

Then reinstall with a new EGR gasket and you will be good to go.

Remember to reset the computer as well.

Do a tuneup:

Fuel filter
Spark plugs AC Delco only
Cap & Rotor
Air Filter
PCV Valve
Transission flush and refill and a new filter
Differential fluid and transfer case fluid change

correct me if i am wrong because i am not a mechanic. but i remember reading somewhere that if your car keep throwing the p1406 code, that you may need to buy a new egr valve. now if you have a piece of carbon jammed in there inableing the pintle to move, then i know you just need to clean it. but if you keep receiving the code with no carbon stuck in there, the article said due to normal wear, the pintle will get stuck on its own because of age and will need replacing.. i will try to find the article again.

when i first bought my blazer like a year and a half ago, i kept getting tht code, p1406, so i just bought a new egr valve, since then i havent had that code come back so i guess mine was doing what that article was saying. hope this helps people out

You probably could have just cleaned it.

i was cleaning it like 3 times every 2 weeks.. i thought that was too many times to be cleaning it. and besides my friend worked at advance auto at the time so i got a nice discount on it.

Nah, the carbon getting into it isn't a sign of the valve going defective, the carbon is from the CPI injector leaking.

Hope you kept the old one, will help you later down the road to have a spare.

How can I reset the computer in my 96 blazer?

Turn the key to the on position before start.

Remove the two ECM fuses.

Turn the key to off.

Unplug the battery negative post.

Wait 30 minutes.

Reconnect battery cable, reinsert fuses and everything will be reset.

Thanks for clearing that up because i was not sure how many ECM fuses there were and what cables to remove i just always remove the battery and wait till it clears. What about the one with unplugging it overnight?Does that deal with just fuses?

Ford yes(2002 F150. Jeep? got 3, Harley 1, Honda MC 4. I love any thing that goes. But every chevy from 69 chevelle to 96 blazer I have ever owned has been constant problem. My brother is chevy man, even he is having trouble with this one
Girlfriend bought from her son for $800 (doing him a favor) needs head gasket. After head gasket and top end work($1000) runs like crap find 3 spun bearings. Junk yard motor with 90k $550 plus bearings and gaskets(yea it was junk too) misc mounts and accessories the price is now $3800. The motor wants to jump out of the rig when you start it, but then it runs fine. other than the check engine light. trying to get it going good enough to sell for what she's got into it. I doubt I will become a GM lover over this one
Thanks again
