I just bought a 99 cavy, 2door, 2200, 5speed for $1750. Is that anywhere close to a good price?

Depends on how many miles it has on it as well as how it looks inside and out. It also wouldnt hurt to know how well the previous owner maintained it such as oil changes plugs and all that other good stuff.

Presuming it was in good condition inside and out, had under 100k miles, and didn't have any major mechanical problems, I'd say you didn't do too bad. Obviously if there were some blemishes, needed some repairs, tires, had higher milage, etc the value can drop quickly.

You can always check the approximate value of your car online at nada.com (http://www.nadaguides.com/uv/selectcategory.aspx?LI=1-11-0-2112-48-254-27209&wSec=11&wPr=1&wPg=2081&itemid=27209). But don't always take what the value is for the absolute value. The true value is what the market pays for a vehicle. Hybrids are hot now for instance and at one time actually sold for more used then new. On the flip side, some cars may have a large glut on the market in a region and that brings the value down. Plus then there are personal opinions that can raise or lower the value. I just bought a 97 Cav Convertible. I wanted a convertible so I was willing to offer a premium over a non-convertible because that was what I wanted. But the flip of that works as well as some people may not want a convertible so it could bring down the value in their eyes.

There is also Kelly Blue Book (KBB.com), but their values are so overinflated that I've never seen a bank that will loan you the KBB value of the vehicle.

Yeah. The car has 92,000 miles. The body has one door dent the size of a pea. And there is a crack on the dash right by the window. It runs great and the previous owner was the only one to ever drive it and she changed the oil every 4,000 miles.

The crack on the dash is inevitable. There is no way around it. I've got 2 in mine.

Yep me too.

I guess I think you did ok too. I paid $5500 for my 2001 with 14k miles in 2003.

I paid $950 for my 97 Convertible with 120k. It needed new brakes, tires, power window motors, and the top leave a little to be desired, but it runs well and the body is in reasonably good condition with a few dings that should pop out easily. Now if I could only find a power window switch for under the $85 the dealer wants my life would be complete...

I paid a little over 8K for my 2001 with 31K miles on it in 2003. I just now broke the 50K mark.
