91 civic clutch help

hey.. i just bought a 91 civic.. and theirs something wrong with the clutch.. when u push the clutch down when it gets closer to the end it gets very hard.. its to tight i think. and i thought all i needs is a adjustment.. cuz its a fairly new clutch.. was replaced in january.. and when i took to the shop they said i need a whole new clutch system.. wanted to know wut u guys think? i dont got another g-note to spend for a new clutch.. n dont see the point in spending it when it works alright now.. just a good workout for my foot.

Pushing the pedal all the way down and finding it is getting 'hard' means your trying to push your clutch release bearing and pressure plate fingers thru your clutch plate & flywheel... not good.
You could try and adjust it... or even easier, just not push the clutch all the way to the floor when changing gears!! All you need is for the clutch to release and allow U to grab the next gear so not pushing it to the floor should theorectically make your shifts quicker.

Under the hood, to the right of the battery and just left of the lower radiator hose is a little knob. Reach in and turn it counter clockwise a few turns to loosen up your clutch cable a tad. You really don't want more than an inch or so of play in the clutch pedal.

ya.. but u see the thing is.. if i dont push the clutch all the way down.. i wont be able to shift gears at all.. it has to go al the way down to shift.. or even start the car.

my advice would be to start all over. loosen the clutch cable so you can move the clutch arm easy. lift it up till it stops, now tighten the clutch cable up to that point but leave just little bit of slack. now try push your clutch in and see if that helped at all

I said no more than an inch... jeez... wtf, an 1/8th of an inch is barely even noticeable. I have about 1/2" of play on my pedal and it's perfect (street/strip stage 1 exedy)...

Just going thru the posts by EFkid, it sounds like the clutch is not engaging until the very bottom of travel then... Which means the cable is too loose already and the cable needs to be tensioned up so 'it gets hard' in the middle of clutch travel...
Anyone agree?

I been thinking about it for the last few hours, maybe the cable has become stretched??

ya im starting to think its the cable wire... but i dont wanna take it to the shop to get it replaced... cuz its ganan cost to much.. n im only 17.. unlike most kids.. on isurance with their parents.. im not so dont got loads of cash to spend on the civic. so ill just have to wait till i save up a bit more loot or till the cluctch jus dies out on my one day.. cuz its working fine and all.. just that it gives me foot a good workout.

cables are easy to replace so i wouldent worry about that...Your lookin for more problems waitin it out cause if your clutch goes then thats more money then a cable....it might even be an adjustment issue...which cost nothin but like 2 minutes of your time like turtlecrxsi said on how to adjust it

then my mechanic must not know wut hes doing.. cuz he said something about dropping the tranny dropping this and that.. so on.. to get to replace it..
