Ok so im totally freaked out ( im a girl ) and i love cars big time .... I baught a 01 cavalier about 1 year ago ... It was in awsome shape ( well besides being a fixed salvage ) so anyways it ran great up until about 2 months ago .. now every thing is going bad in it .. It only has 62 k on it and the clutch is going out .. im having an electrical short and im also having problems with my ac ..... Now i want to fix all this stuff by my self ( most of all the clutch ) now i need help on how to do so .... Also if you have any clue as for me to see how to fix the short tha would be great ( when i put my lights on touch my stero , or the brakes my whole car goes crazy )

got any ideas ?

Trish

If you have to ask how to do a clutch, dont even try.

As for the short...Define "the car goes crazy"

whoever installed your CD player didn't do it right. That is probably where your short is.

yeah, about the clutch. we did the clutch on my dad's f150. here is how we did it. he got in it, i got in my car. i follwed him to the shop. he got out. gave them the key. got in my car. we left. it was SO easy to do the clutch...

the clutch is a job you need all the right friends or all the knowlege and a bunch of equipment.

Both of you two guys lighten up. All that she asked was how to do it. Not everyone can be the master mechanics that you two are. This site is here to help people, not to poke fun at them.

To answer your question Trish, you would be best to find a Haynes manual for your vehicle. The instructions for replacing it are in there and are accompanied by a variety of photos and diagrams. It will detail in order what all needs to be done to get to the clutch plate. You will also be changing the pressure plate while you are there (you'd be foolish to reuse it) as well as resurface your flywheel.

Replacing a clutch is not necessarily a hard task requiring alot of mechanical experience although that defintely would help. It definitely isn't the same as changing an airfilter or doing an oilchange. You will need to remove your transmission which also means you will remove your drive axels. You likely will need more then just a basic set of tools and sockets and you will need to raise the vehicle and put it on jack stands. If you don't have the proper tools, can't do it safely, or don't think that you can do it properly, then it should be left to a professional or at least someone who can do it safely and properly.

ok thanks a bunch ! My freind actually has a guy that gives her like 3/4 off and charges her 1/2 of the pric for the tolls since that his employee discount .... So i will probably have him do it and watch (incase any of my other cars need a clutch) so i will tell you all if i end up doing that ...

Thanks Trish

anyways i got my cd payer out .. i see one loose wire but when i touch that wire to the metal inside nothing happens but it keeps doing it when the wire is not touching anything ... do you think there is still more wires behing ther deck that is making it do that or could it be elsewhere in the car?

Master mechanich eh? Not really, I am mechanically inclined to an extent but there is no way you could get me to consider doing my own clutch. I am not being mean, i am being reasonable.

I like a challenge as well. But I don't have another car to drive while my car is put up. If I had another motive of transportation you could bet I would take a stab at the clutch, not literally though, that might not end well.. Sorry for anything I may have said that may come off as rude, I sorta am a dick I have been told, and I don't even know it. Woo.
