Looking to buy a 1999 new body style jetta.
Has about 100K miles.
Car is great in everyway but there is a rattle when you accelerate.
Owner says he was told it needs a new catalytic convertor.
What does this cost?
Is it an expensive repair?
Thanks.

Catalytic converter on 2.0 is about 1100.00 + install.

Catalytic converter on vr6 about 1600.00

Cat on 1.8t is about 1800.00

That hurts.
What about going to somewhere cheaper?
Meineke?
Midas?
Local guy?

new cat (universal) cost me like 250 at a local midas shop

be sure to have them cut the flanges off the old cat and weld them onto the universal, otherwise they'll weld the new one on to your exhaust, and youll never be able to take it off with having it cut and that = lame

Aftermarket cats on vw's dont always work as good because there tolerances are not as small as factory parts. On 99+ it would most likely set a check light after a while.

Just bought a re-certified salvage for $325. OEM Part, should pull 65k miles. I'll be in another car by then. Took it to the local shop, my vr6 has 8 bolts, took 45 minutes to put in. Could have done it in the driveway, but didn't have ramps.
