oil smell

The car all of a sudden started smelling like oil inside. I took of the oil filter and then couldnt take the oil plug off so i put the new oil filter on and waited until i got another day off work to take off that dang oil nut with a vice grips, butt why is it smelling like that

is there oil caked on your engine or dripping down onto your exhaust? my pickup smelled like burning oil and so i replaced the valve cover gaskets and it stopped. also it could be your oil pan leaking too. that smell is probably oil burning on your block or exhaust pipe(s). One time it was actually my oil filter that had somehow managed to work itself loose and pour half a quart of oil on my exhaust in 2 blocks, leaving a stinky mofo of a cloud behind me. good times lol
