I have a 1990 Fleetwwod which is like the Deville with the 4.5 motor.
I remember listening to a car show when some one asked a master mechanic that same question for the same car.
He said advancing the timeing was all you can do. I asked my mechanic about it and he said the timing is controlled by the computer and adjusting it could mess things up. I would ask a few mechanics if advancing the timing manually would be OK or lead to problems.
Personally I would say fresh plugs, a new air cleaner, new fuel filter and very importantly changing the oxygen sensor will gain you some power and save some gas.
Also installing some good rebuilt injectors for $25.00 each or buying expensive new ones will make a difference. If old injectors are OK the Cadillac dealers have a pretty good injector cleaning method way beter than stuff in cans that regular garages have, I noticed a difference.
It's a fun car to drive and has pretty good power. Putting more air in the tires will improve the handling and speed it up a bit for a low cost but it's not really designed to be a 500 HP sports car. Try using Nitro rather than gasoline if it's legal.
Enjoy it, Terry
