Hey guys,

New owner here, spent a few days on the board reading up and found your information and posts highly informative. I recently aquired a 95 bird LT 4.6 sohc V8 from a female friend for the amazing price of FREE. The car is in excellent shape body wise, interior is clean and everything is functional. She offed the car to me for several reasons, Primary being no place to store it in MA unregistered, and puchased a new vehicle.

The previous owner spent an abundance of cash on this car in repairs, The car has 135K on the odom, and all work performed was after the title milage of 82.103 in the years of 02-04.

Replaced on the vehicle was 4R70W Trans, HD converter (AODE), Tranny Valve Body and all electrics, 02 sensor, all 4 rotors and pads, LH-RH Upper Control Arms, Windshield, RT side axle seal, Plugs, Wires and belts, 4 tires, Radiator and Fan.. Intake manifold is Alum.

QUESTION 1 : Was the alum intake swapped from composite under the service advisory?

The Brakes are warped worse then any vehicle I have ever encountered, in 40K miles... pads came out literally broken from the backing with .252" pad remaining (1/4"+) Wheel thump deviates steering wheel 2 inches at 55mph otherwise stearing is tight as can be and NO rattles/shutter/sidestep at all on turns.

QUESTION 2 : Do these cars tear through rotors like this?

MIL (CHK ENG) is Illuminated, car was misfiring (Plug wires toasted left bank arching caused failure from terminal to HEI coil-pack and internal plug to head surroundings) The wires are less then a year old, and plugs came out clean,clean,filthy,clean(LH) (RH) clean, clean, filthy, filthy (wires also toasted on the back right)

I Modded my wires myself, but I dont think this will last will try motorcraft next time.

Question 3: Can I run a transmission Boron Additive versus a shutter stopper?


MAF sensor plug was not fully engaged (last mechanic musta not pushed it past the lock but you guys alerted me to the condition in your posts)

Question 4: What type of milage do you guys see with the 4.6 on ave with the stock engine and normal driving? I am contimplating driving this car over a 2000 chevy camaro with a 3.8v6 5 speed. Performance is not primary, a trunk and comfort is.

LAST QUESTION - How do you reset the CHK ENG, I cut out the damaged plug wires, replaced the plugs, modified the plug and boot with additional rubber compounds to prevent arching, soft gasketed the boots/head to prevent moisture/dirt from entering and at this point the engine runs strong with no more misfiring. I would like to see any additional codes from this point (fresh) since I know I have a possible Maf if it indeed storeded that condition, among other things.
What is the procedure for reset?

1.my 94 had aluminum intake from factory 2.yes and they are cheap from autozone about 20 each 3.drain converter and run mercon v fluid only 4. mine has 151000 and runs great and ive seen 225000 and still running great 5. go to autozone and they will read codes for free and turn off chk eng light pulling the battery does not work for all codes stored scanner is really the best way esp. when its scanned for free
