Hey guys,

I think the factory CD player is dieing, or doing something else weird. Basically, I just want to know if I would be able to get a factory AC Delco replacement (and installed) for a decent price (under $100). The radio I have now is the AM/FM CD Player w/Theftlock.

The thing follows the same pattern every time:

Plays through about one song
Goes into the next song for a few seconds
skips, resumes playing
skips twice, dies

Know what those symptoms might mean? not that important though, just would like info on a new one, thanks!

Tried giving it a cleaning disc?
CD (and some lower-price DVD) players now are so cheaply made that they don't last more than a few years; the Sony XPlod head unit I've had since 1998 still plays, although it has problems every now and again.

If you eBay these things, they're not cheap. About $100 is what you'd pay at the very least. Junkyards might or might not have cheaper, as far as installation you can do that yourself. Its straight unplug-plug. Places like HiFiBuys charge $80 just to install. I'd grab a Haynes if you need it and swap it out yourself.

if your not looking for a cd, just a foctory delco that will fit, I took a factory am/fm tape out of my lumina and replaced it with a cd player. I'll sell you or anyone, the tape. name your price.

From what little I know of CD workings, sounds like the laser transport mechanism is failing. Basically the motor or belt that moves the optical pickup from the center of the disc to the outside as it plays is wearing out, and cannot move the pickup any further.
If you're looking to keep it factory, the other posts are good advice. However, there are better units to be had, also on Ebay. 100 bux is cutting it thin for a decent unit but you CAN find them from time to time.
