fuel pressure regulator

While working on my car today at school, a snap-on rep came and started talking to me. First he started asking why I have my bov routed into the intake, so I explained the whole process. Then he says, well all you have to do is pull the dump tube off and cap it and just vent the "pop off valve", so then I reexplained why you cant do that. Then he says "well, I've build about 7 TSi's like yours and all you have to do is get a fuel pressure regulator and bump up the stock fuel pressure 7psi and that will take care of the studdering problems when venting" is there any truth to that? its been bugging me all day.

If your loosing monitored air, and running rich becasue of it, why would you want to raise FP? Maybe he ment lower BFP by 7psi.

I've never heard of that. I wouldn't try it.

That was exactly what I was thinking. Next time he comes back I'm going to ask him exactly what he ment.

BTW is a B&M FRP for $45 shipped brand new a good deal?

Sure. But you can't decrease BFP. So it's useless. If you get one, get an Aermotive Afpr

well considering that the likelyhood of decreasing fp to vent doesnt seem very possible, wouldnt raising my fp give better performance?

Only in refrence to boost. You still want to maintain BFP. Trust me on this. If your going to buy a FPR, get one that will allow you to set your BFP if you ever upgrade your Fuel Pump. B&M isn't one of them.

Take a peak

Well this is how it went down. My stepdad ended up ordering the B&M fpr last night so i could use it as a school project. So even though its not the ideal fpr its at no cost to me, yay free mods!!

Still absolutely useless. In fact the 3 ounces of weight it adds will reduce performance :icon16:

The fuel pressure thing and BOV venting is a complete fabrication. 2 fucked up mods don't equal a good one.

ok well while in school today trying to figure out why I am running very rich, I looked at my stock fpr and its going out/gone. so basically its just replacing my stock one

The B&M unit does not replace the stock regulator. It just adds an adjustment to the spring. Like an adjustable crushed BOV. :)

BTW ive heard alot of talk of a crushed gen1 bov and such, whats the difference between that and a non crushed one i guess

Hey, its not a contest to see who can get the best FPR :) Work with what you have, just be aware of the true functionality of any products you have.

The crushed BOVs hold a little more boost than a stock unit. It just compresses the spring more to make it stiffer, hold the valve closed tighter. There is a whole procedure on how to do this that I have posted in the past. Doesnt apply to the shyte 2g valves of course, since they are plastic.
