I can tell you that the second error you had means that you need to either clean your rear O2 sensor or replace it (probably replace itA). Replacement will cost a good amount of money (around $100-$200 american). I'll get back to you on the first error and no, you shouldn't have had to pay someone to hook up an OBD II reader to your car. You should have been able to go to an automotive store and had them check your engine codes. They could have told you what the code numbers were and we could have told you what they meant.

Code 53 means there is an internal Powertrain Control Module error.
