dashboard troubles

I own a 2001 Hyundai Sonata. The previous owner of the car apparently used car wax on one spot of the dashboard (obviously something you're not supposed to do). It's just in one spot and it is sometimes an eyesore to the entire dashboard depending on the glare of the sun coming through the window. I've wiped the dashboard with a damp towel, as you're supposed to do. The dashboard wipes down clean, but the mark clearly remains as is. Is it a lost cause to think there's a way of removing this dark cast of wax on my dashboard or are there measures I could try? Any insight would be great. Thanks.
