i have replaced all belts, it squeeked before i changed the belts also. it is either the alternator pulley or the belt tensioner, but i can't tell which one it is. 3.0 liter. any ideas. it doesn't squeek at an idle.

Maybe goto a parts store and get a can of belt dressing and spray it on the belts while running and see if that helps? Does this have AC? Maybe it's not a belt but a bushing/bearing in the alt or ac comp squeakin? Good luck.

tried the belt dressing, made it go away for a little while, but it came back quickly and on the way home the belt came off. that was scary. it's got to be the tensioner

Forget the belt dressing. If you have the 3.0L I guarantee that it is the belt tensioner. It is an easy job. After you remove the belt all you need to do is remove the alternator. Just take out the two bolts and slide the alternator back. No need to unplug it. Then take a 15mm socket and remove the bolt on the tensioner bracket. Put the new one on ($45.00 at Autozone) and install everything in reverse order.
Good Luck

hope your right evictor. I saw you had same problem. seems like a lot of people had same problem, but no general consensus. I am pretty good at working on cars, i just hate to throw parts at it. i already took tensioner off. it was pretty easy. their $73 now at autozone.
thanks for the help
