Power Control Module - Location and R&R questions

I've got a Chilton manual for my Taurus, which us a '98 SE with the 24V DOHC engine. However the manual doesn't tell me where the PCM is located. So, where is the PCM located?

I'm potientally faced with needing to replace my Power Control Module. Before I turn it over to my mechanic and let him charge me for the diagnostics, I'd like to take a crack at it myself. My problem is that I'm getting Code 0155--O2 Sensor Heater Failure B2S1. I've replaced the O2 sensor, so I've got an open somewhere in the heater circuit. If I knew where the PCM was I would check the output of that. If that output is ok, then I'll let my mechanic run new wires for me. If the output is bad, I'll have to replace the PCM.

Are there any gotchas that I should know about before attempting to replace the PCM myself? Theft deterent system, flashing, ...

Thanks to all in advance for your assistance.

Are you sure you replaced the correct O2 sensor? Your car will have 4 O2 sensors. B2S1 I believe would be the sensor before the catalytic converter (S1) on the front manifold (B2).

Rod,
I was told that B2 is on the passenger side of the engine. Now rotate the engine for F(ront)WD and the passenger side is now the rear. If this is wrong, which it maybe, then I replaced the wrong sensor. However, prior to replacing B2S1, I had replaced all 4 because I was getting several other codes indicating low/slow response. I had ~120K on the car and hadn't changed any at that point and figured they were all due. After replacing all four the other codes stopped appearing and I started getting only P0155.

So you wouldn't happen to know where the PCM is located would you? Thanks in advance.

I'm on business travel this week and my service manual is at home, so I'm not sure off the top of my head where the PCM is. I would expect that the connector for it is located on the passenger side firewall up fairly high. The PCM may be located inside the passenger compartment above and behind the glovebox (where it was on my '93 Taurus SHO), but it may also be located under the hood.

Rod,

I decided to let my mechanic have a go at the problem. It turns out that for my car, probably for all 98 Taurus SEs, there is a small chance that new calibration information needs to be downloaded to the PCM after O2 sensor changes. Fortunately, that'll be probably an order of magnitude cheeper than replacing the PCM. Unfortunately, that means going to the dealership. Thanks for your help.

Please still reply with the PCM location, since I'm still curious. Thanks in advance.

Its mounted IN the firewall on the passenger side, if you look at the top left of the engine bay, you can see the big wiring harness plugging into it.
