I have a new v-6 in my RS, I have had to take it back to the place that did it several times they are now telling me that the car is getting to much fuel and that the MAP sensor is causing it. Isnt the map sensor the maifold pressure does it have any thing to do with how much fuel it gets. What else could be the problem? And does anybody know how long a rear main seal should be warrantied? i wouls appreciate any help in this matter. I am tired of them screwing me around and not doing the job they did. thank you for anything you can give me.

Did this place rebuild the engine and install it? How long/many miles ago? Are you sure they said MAP and not MAF (mass air flow) sensor? What made you take the car in?

Okay lets see they put a remanufactured engine in and it was 8 months ago, I have put a little over 6000 miles on it. I took it in for several reasons. one there is a lot of lifter noise, it was leaking oil like a sive, the check engine light came on and it smelled like gas really bad, and every time I would come to a stop the engine would almost die, and it just wasnt running very good. I spoke to them several times over the last week and they kept telling me they were trying to figure out why it was getting to much gas. yesterday they told me that the MAP not Maf was bad and they replaced it with a used on they had in the shop, and it seemed to be running better, but I dont believe them because they also told they adjusted the timing and the lifter noise went away. what do you think? I appriciate your help because I am really upset with this place and they seem to not know what they are doing.

Is there gas in the oil? You shouldn't have any lifter noise after only 6000 miles, unless it was a "used" engine. If the timing was off, adjusting it would certainly make it run better, but someone has to explain to me how that would alleviate lifter noise. That doesn't make sense to me.

Anytime the check engine light comes on, there will be a code(s) stored in the computer. Ask them what codes they retrieved. (get the code #, not what they think it means.)

What year is your car?

It is a 90 RS with a v-6. No there is no gas in the oil. I checked for that to. I figure these guys are giving me the run around because they think I am a stupid female. I also understand that setting the timing made it run better, but I agree that it has nothing to do with the lifter noise. I think they just dont want to replace the lifters because there is alot of work to it and they dont want to do a freebee!!!! I have a 30,000 mile three year warranty on the work they did. I also had a problem with the spark plug wire coming off the spark plugs, I finally did get new wires and did it myself because everytime I took the car back there was something else wrong with it. It seems like they dont want to stand behind the work they do, they didnt even clean up the engine compartment when they put the motor in. I think I will call them and see if they put a code reader on it. I am at a lose as to what to do I need my car and it has been there a week already, and as you can see I dont believe much of what they say anymore. What would you do? I have already put alot of money into this car and I sure dont want to get rid of it!

Do you have any male friends/relatives/neighbors that are car savy? If you do, and they are willing to help, this may be all you need.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of shops that try to take advantage of a lone female. Explain the entire situation to him so he is well informed, and will not be caught off guard. Have him read over any paper work and warrenty information you have from the shop, and then go together in person and ask to talk to the owner(s).

Look them up on http://search.bbb.org/search.html, and see if they are a registered member. If they are, you have another tool.

If they are still being unreasonable after you meet with them, inform them that you are aware that they are a member of the Better Business Bureau, and that you will be lodging a complaint about their poor treatment and service. Then they may just change their tone.

Good luck. Let us know what happens.

Chuck,
Thank you for your help! I do have many male friends but they are all at a lose to, they tell me to keep waiting and that dosnt seem to be working! but I will try this web site and do exactlly that! I was thinking of going to the bureau of auto repair and letting them do their own research on this place to because I cant be the only person with problems there!
I do have one more qustion for you. It is about cooling system. The car dosnt over heat when I am driving but when I turn the car off the over flow tank boils. Everything in the cooling system is new.
And again Thank you!
