dashboard trouble

I own a 2001 Hyundai Sonata. The previous owner of the car apparently used car wax on one spot of the dashboard (obviously something you're not supposed to do). It's just in one spot and it is sometimes an eyesore to the entire dashboard depending on the glare of the sun coming through the window. I've wiped the dashboard with a damp towel, as you're supposed to do. The dashboard wipes down clean, but the mark clearly remains as is. Is it a lost cause to think there's a way of removing this dark cast of wax on my dashboard or are there measures I could try? Any insight would be great. Thanks.

There are few thing you can do:

1. Place 1-2 sheets of newspaper over the wax. Hold a hair dryer over the spot, approximately 4 inches away from the paper on a soft setting, but high heat. The newspaper will absorb the wax.

2. Try a citrus solution such as De-Solv-It and wipe it up with a paper towel.

Of course, it this is a very old wax spot it might have penetrated the top layer of the dashboard so deep that is beyond help. However give it a try, it might work. It certainly won't damage anything. Good luck!

It shouldn't, but if you're still concerned, simply use one of the thick paper towels, like Bounty.

so both newspaper or a paper towel will absorb the wax from the dash using a hair dryer? what purpose does the hair dryer serve? i guess im just a little confused as to why this would work.

The hair dryer...well, you can't be removing no wax with a messy hair now, can you? :) jk...seriosly, the heat will break down the chemical molecule from the wax and you need paper to absorb it. It's a simple chemistry principle, wax's chemical structure is such that it expands/melts at high heat and contracts/hardens when cold.

if this works, im going to be strangely surprised. it's a good suggestion, no doubt, but i cant see the wax simply disappearing from the dash. you'll be getting many thanks should it work :) oh and by the way, how do you put a hair dryer on a soft, but high heat? i think the ones my mom carries have either a high or low setting. and about how long should i leave the hair dryer over the paper towel? should the paper towel be placed on the dashboard over the spot, or should it be held up slightly above the spot? so many questions before i start this procedure!!!!!

soft = low speed
high = heat setting

paper directly on top of the wax spot, not above, as you want a direct contact so that the wax that heats up can be soaked up by paper; again, like I said, if this spot was there for a long time, it may not come out, but you should try it; also the De-Solv-It solution, try that too.

you are approaching this as if it's an open-heart surgery, just do it!
