Dirty Dextol

Hi gang.

last year I had my heater core replaced, and apparently my cooling system flushed..

well I just noticed recently, a fluctuation in my temperature.. I finally checked the radiator and noticed the expansion tank was empty, and then went to the radiator cap. Once opened it, what a surprise,,, it was like scooping out orange mud....

To hold me over, i put in about a gallon of just plain water...(that much!!!)

I have been reccommended to flush the whole system, and change over to a normal anti- freeze, so the questions are:

1... What's the best procedure of flusing the system..drain and refill a few times with a heat cycle in-between..

and

2.. can i switch over to a non-dextol anti-freeze without creating havoc.

or 3. should I just flush and keep the the dextol base.

If you recently had a shop do the other work bring it back and tell them they messed up and to fix it. Secondly replace the rad cap with anything other then ac delco, use stant if possible. That sludge forms from air getting into the system. There is about 50 threads on it in this forum. That is what I would do anyway and you will probably get a free flush out of it, a fluid top off, and then do the rad cap yourself.

After posting, I noticed the large thread below...

too late to have the work redone.....

so the question is do I still maintain with the dextrolll...
and dfinitiely the cap needs to be replace (as I read in the below thread) since the largest aomundt of goop was right by the carpp

Yea it is fine as long as the system is air tight. Just replace the rad cap and have it filled with the red or orange coolant and stick with it.

Stick to dexcool and replace the rad cap.
