warm up??

ok. Usually in the mornings I am in a hurry to get to work. If I dont let my truck warm up (i turn it on and go) Its really sluggish when I accelerate and seems like its going to die. Is this normal? I just had my intake gasket done under warranty by the dealer.

It may be your fuel pump... but it's ALWAYS a good idea to let an engine warm up. I've had a lot of arguments with stupid people who thought because it wasn't cold outside, the engine was warm enough. Ideally, the t-stat should be open with coolant flowing before you drive.

yeah i know its good to let it warm up but when its almost time for work, i kinda gotta get goin sometimes ya know?? I just dont know if thats the prob or not. It doesnt do it any other time. Doesnt sputter or anything. Just when taking off when it sat for a while.

My '01 silve 5.3 had 90K and I never saw that problem. I just started getting the "Loud Deisel In The Neighborhood" sound. If I did not let it warm up it would sound ten times worse. Sold that "Deisel" and got a gas toy....

Ok My dad has always used this analogy with cold/warm engines. Try waking yourself up out of a dead sleep and jump right outside and go for 2 km run they try and go back to sleep again afterwards. Your engine acts the same way you do. Sluggish and tired until your nice and warm.

In all my experiences with this truck and my last it didn't act normally until it was somewhat warm. I cheat in the winter or once it starts getting cold by plugging my Block Heater in. That way when it's time to go I just head out jump in and she's already warm. Oh yeah did I mention my Silverado hides in a garage too...

I usually wait about 2-5 minutes before I go anywhere. Once the Temperature gauge starts to move then I head out and I usually baby it until the gauge is 1/4 of the way up.

Just my :2cents: worth.... I guess you could always try getting up a little earlier...

The thing that I think is kinda hard my truck is when I carpool and it's not my turn to drive I drive 4 km to the Carpool spot wait 10 minutes then shut her down. By then though the Silvy's up to temp but, I just don't like doing short hops. I think you get more life out of long trips..... I'm starting to ramble now so I'm just going to shut the hell up...

I usually wait 1-2 minutes then drive slow for the first mile or so. Always works great..never sluggish!!

have you ever seen cold oil its like honey or syrup and it takes a few mins for it to get warm enough to flow correctly. does alot of wear to engine parts starting and going without warm up.

i know what it does. i know its bad lol. i was just trying to figure out if that was the prob or not.

No, just sometimes I don't have time to get in the truck and sit for a while... if I had a remote starter, I could start the truck from inside while getting ready.

Not neccessarily... get a GOOD synthetic like Royal Purple, Redline, or Amsoil. Synthetics are supposed to prevent this condition. I've been running Royal Purple for a while... engine really seems to love it.

I just get in mine and go. No hesitation or anything. Its my 2nd engine, so I don't really care anymore. Mine actually seems more powerful when I first crank it up

Yea, a remote start isnt just for the winter, I use mine every morning before work. In the summer I will start it up about 3 min before I walk out the door, but in the winter I start it up as soon as i get out of the shower.
