Choosing a Cold Air Intake.

Hey everybody,
I am planning on ordering a Cold Air Intake for my 4.3 in the next week or so. I was planning on ordering a K&N FIPK intake, but then I checked Ebay and saw Cold Air Intakes for extremely cheap, and I began to take interest in the intakes form "Chrome Intakes." So I did a search and found a thread on the "Chrome Intakes", and that a few people on this board have them and are happy with them.
So my question would be this, Would it be a waste to pay around 249$ for the K&N intake, when I could get one on Ebay for under 50 bucks? (I would be adding a K&N cone filter that I already have to the Ebay one) Is there some difference between the two that makes one more expensive then the other? Would the K&N intake offer me better performance? Any input would be appreciated, Thanks!

I just bought one from intakepro (that's his seller ID) and it was incredibly easy to install and I can tell it's working...

I just finished installing mine from "CHROME INTAKES"
it took me 40 min to install from start to finish, I don't think there's a difference except for price between K&N and the one I got from EBAY delivered to Chicago $42.95. It's your money though........

The name mostly.
And you won't have to replace the filter seeing the filters that come with it are cotton gauze just like the K&N so replacing it is pointless.

I just got one from Chrome Intakes shipping, handling and insurance was $47.00. I love it and the filter that comes with it is a different design than a K&N but the same type of material. The one from C I has more surface area than K&N and looks more sporty. I would post a pic of the filter but the remnants of Hurricane Katrina just arrived and its freakin' poring outside.

Don't get that one, get one with a standard cone filter and make a heat shield yourself.

Hello everyone, new poster here. I have a 97 Bravada that has a 4.3 V-6 and I was also thinking about adding a cold air intake to it from "Chrome Intakes". What kind of gain in HP can be expected? Also I heard that a cold air intake can improve gas millage. Is this true?
Thanks for any info and sorry if I highjacked the thread. I didn't want to start a new thread asking roughly the same question as above.

I got intake pro and it was easy to install and it looks pretty dope too. The throttle response has increased big time and i'm also more fuel efficient. Best 18 bucks i ever spent, it was $48 after shipping and the guy, Gary Tan, builds them to any specs plus he lists his phone number so you can actually talk to him about your truck model. Took about a week to arrive and i couldn't be happier with the custiomer service.

I have ordered one from ssintakezoen off Ebay, as they had a better satisfaction % from their customers. Will advise when I get it.

You will see a 5-7hp increase if you dynoed it.
Fuel economy might be an increase of 1-2mpg at most.
You best be tuning your engine up before doing this if you haven't every did any of the following:
Fuel filter
Spark plugs AC Delco Platinum only
Cap & Rotor
Air Filter
PCV Valve
Transission flush and refill and a new filter
Differential fluid and transfer case fluid change

Thanks Blazer LT. I appreciate the feedback. I am slowly getting to all the details. I just bought the Brvada a couple of weeks ago. It was previously owned by a 55 year old lady who used it for driving to and from work. I notice that the sticker on the window says it is scheduled for it's next oil change at 69,000 miles. It had 68,000 when I bought it. It is extremely clean and looks to be very well taken care of. Engine is clean, shifts smooth and it runs very quiet. I took it on a short trip today and got about 20-21mpg on the highway.

That is not a bad deal.
But serously, undate the muffler and THEN install an intake.
