Need help with Honda F-1RA 272 Fuel Lines

Hi,

Can anyone help me? I'm currently building a Honda F-1RA 272 (Slowly.. LOL) and I've come across some great ref: pictures.

However looking at the pictures, and the Tamiya Build Guide, it is easy to see that the Tamiya Paint guide is off, and also if you look at this picture -

I can easily paint the parts the correct colours, even the wheels look Magnesium, easily fixed - Alclad II will sort that out. Even the engine block I can do with Alclad II pale gold.

But, the fuel lines look a little harder to replicate. Been searching for hours now, but I need something that will make the lines like those in the picture. There has to be something I can do. Anyone have any ideas? I tried light gold painted wires, clear orange, clear yellow, nothing comes close.. Can I buy clear wire, and then paint that clear yellow, as if I paint a clear sprue clear yellow it is perfect..

I perfer not the heat up clear sprue to make wires.. I won't be able to bend them all correctly, so any other ideas?

fishing lines is the best thing to use for the clear fuel lines. i think 10lbs line is good.

Hmm, the picture doesn't work, but I think I know what you are talking about.
James is right, fishing line is great for that.
Another option would be these (http://www.mediamixhobby.com.sg/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=961) painted from the inside wish a wash.

I'm also building the Ra272 and I made my fuel lines last week by heating up clear sprue. It's a little tricky to bend it, but I got the hang of it after a while. I've painted them with a clear yellow/clear orange/smoke mixture and they look convincing enough:

Huugo, may I ask you what solution/concentration do you use to etch stainless steel? The brakes on you Honda look quite amazing (as all the other parts so far...!!)

In English, I think it is called sodium persulfate.

Did you find that the Tamiya Paint guide is all wrong..!!

Anyhow, thanks for the tips guys.. I can either go with the 10lbs fishing line, easy enough to get, or i try the heated clear sprue.. I didn't think it would bend enough, but seeing HHugo's engine using ths technique seems like it might..

Sorry the picture didn't work. As can be seen, the fuel lines are clear ish yellow..

Also the wheels are not totally semi gloss black. Alclad II will take care of that for me.

I also use fishing line for the fuel lines. I use to then coat with clear acrylic yellow/orange but found that it would crack and lift off once the line was bent. The best way i found is to simply use a permanemt ink marker in an orange/tan colour. I blot the marker onto a small lint free rag and then pull the line through the rag to get a thin even coat of the ink. Once dry it is very durable.

Wow Hugo! Your work on the RA272 is awesome. It'll be a true masterpiece.

HLJ sell something that does the job... Model Factory Hiro p-902 clear fuel tube. You may need a couple of packs but it's pretty cheep.
