I recently bought my 91 passat and it was running fine when i purchased it, but i took it around the block n parked it n when i tried to start it up again, the starter motor runs n the radiator fans spin, but nothing else, is it compression, my fuel pump maybe? I've already replaced the distributor cap, could it be the rotor tho, help!

I take it that the engine (at least crankshaft) spins also. Check if the rotor button turns when cranking.

nope, nothin but what i said, just the radiator fans n a loud noise in the starter, i was told by my brother in law that its the starter, and even tho its spinning, its not pushing out far enough, so out that came n the replace should be this week or next(whenever the money comes) i'll update u if thats not the problem

When you take the starter off be sure to check the teeth on the flywheel & also replace the starter's bushing in the transmission.

When the starter is off look in through the hole at the teeth on the flywheel to ensure they are not damaged. You will want to turn it around to unsect all the teeth. The bushing (if it uses one) is right there also. You need to use a screwdriver or small chisel to break it up to get it out, but it's fairly simple.

as far as the electrical connections go, there are two wires that are black, one that is red and one thats red with a black stripe, where do they go when installing the new starter, i neglegently didnt write it down when i took off the original starter
