Loose front ball joint on 2000 Quest

I bought this car in Sep. 2000. It has 42000 miles on it. Last week I had it oil changed in Nissan dealer. I was told the front ball joint of suspension is loose and need to be replaced.
I asked them why it happens on a car only runs 42k in the city and has never been in a accident.
They kind of agreeed it is not usual. But it happens. And I could be in a crash without steering and break if not fix it right way.

Nissan has a recall of Steering Rack Mounting Bolts for 2000 Quest. But my VIN is not in their published range.

Are these two problems related? Can a loose steering bolt cause fast wore out of front ball joint?

Also about half years ago I started to hear some noise occasionaly under the car when I start to drive the car after waiting for a red light or at stop sign? It sounds like the wheel is spining but car not moving. It lasts no longer than a couple of sec.

Anyone has the same problem?

Thanks.
