Im new to volkswagon and I am interested in buying an older (1970-1976) VW beetle and making it race ready, or at least driveable. Could someone help me out with some info on how to get started, some good research sites, some sights that sell parts things like that. What year beetle would you reccomend? Any response can be helpful. Thanks

Good god, do not buy anything from these places for aircooled volkswagens. GEX is well known for selling unreliable rebuilt ACVW engines, and J.C Whitney's stuff is primarily made in China, the fit/finish and quality control are abhorrent. And stay away from the chrome stuff.
Stick with the people selling the OEM german or Mexico parts, as their fit and finish is closer to the original german parts made back in the day.

Plenty of real, ACVW oriented folks that can help you there.
