Okay, so i'm supposed to go pick up my 'new' car in about an hour or two, but i've been driving my girlfriends mkIII (97) for while (weeks). Anyways, i took her to class this morning and pulled out onto the street, as i pulled out i revved up a little to make the exhaust whine cuz i know it bugs her :evillol: , so i'm sitting in traffic and i look down and the needle is almost all the way to the right!!!! I pulled over and popped the hood to check it out and the resevoir coolant tank was boiling.....thats never good, but the car never had problems until this morning, and i didn't rev it very hard or anything. After that the coolant starting shooting out of the side of the container, where theres that little black shield thing and that little black button thing. So i'm sittin at the gas station with pink stuff oozing all over the place.....I let it cool off and gimp it the 2 miles home (get up some speed then kill the engine and cruise :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: ). I added some fluid and ran the car and it started to heat just a bit past halfway, so i added some more fluid(i lost alot :cwm27: ). I had to go to my old house, so i grabbed a 2liter of water and drove here. As i turned on my road, my coolant temp/level light started blinkin, but the engine didn't even start to overheat at all. I made to my house and popped the hood, there was NO coolant left in the tank again :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: . Did i blow the seal on the resevoir jug or something???? Please tell me, its not my car and my g/f is gonna rip my scrotum open when i tell her later today..   I already made an appointment to take it in to a mechanic on wednesday, and i get MY car today, so i'll drive her around until then :uhoh: :uhoh: . What could have caused this sudden burst in temp? I woulnd't think the thermostat would just all of a sudden get stuck right there on the street, but i dunno.

Were the fans running when it was hot? The light blinks when the coolant resevoir is low, it's not unusual to have to add a few times fter boiling over.

Sounds like either a stuck thermostat or bad water pump.
