Door (Auto) Locking Mechanism

Hi,

I just bought a 2000 Beetle TDI - great car - great gas mileage!

It has a feature, however, that I'd like to remove: When I drive faster than about 10 mph, the doors automatically lock. I hate this feature. Does anyone know how to turn off this feature? (Without having to pay a dealership!)

(I'm somewhat mechanically-minded, so you have a difficult or technical answer, I can most certainly give it my best shot!)

Unfortunately only dealers scan tools or aftermarket "vag-com" scan tools can do this function.
