Body work Need to be done!

Hello... My name is Dwayne. I am very unfortunite to have been in a wreck with my car about two weeks ago. I T-boned someone. So I have to do some body work to it. Well to make the long story short is I bought another car for parts. I am going to take the parts off of the other car sand it down and primer it and then put it on my car. Well the only thing is that I have never done body work to a car so I dont know the first thing about it. People say its easy but I want to know what I am getting into before I do it. My plan is sand the parts down and then primer it black. I just want to know would that be a good thing to do and need some pointers on how to do it and what would be the best products to use??!!

I would say get it done professionally. I repainted my passenger mirror because it was all scratched up and all. It looks like garbage. When I installed the TSi Halo spoiler, and filled in the old holes with bondo and tried painting and all, it looks like garbage. If you have that much work to get done, let a professional do it, and I dont mean MACO. Check around for some prices. You can find a good deal

I actually thought aobut getting it done but that would be too much money I am willing to spend right now. So what I thought was let me just sand it down and primer it and then when I get enough money to get my whole car repainted. it needs it anyway.

Oh, so you're not talking about painting?

Just sand everything smooth, then primer. Make sure you use a couple coats, while sanding inbetween. Get it nice and smooth, and I believe shinny too! That's really not too hard. Use a power-sander wtih a fine sander. Or, do it by hand and use a little coarser. Just keep it smooth. If you see too much material coming off, use a finer grade.

Use 400-grit twith a board sander then use 800-grit wet sand by hand. I've been helping my brother paint his car, the prep work is the most important take time especially when wet sanding i would recomend doing it by hand it doesn't take too much work to do. Before you prime wash with a acetone to clean any dust from sanding. You can use primer from a spray can but i'd go with spray gun (i used and reallly liked the Sharpe HVLP about $125)

Yeah, watch out for the acetone though. Once I was fiberglassing and I had a cup of it to put the resin brush in while it wasnt in use. Well, my stupid ass friend (the one with the car in my sig) thinks it would be funny to poor some of the acetone down my pants while I was busy fiberglassing. The pants I wear for working on cars are way too big, I wear a 34 and they are 38, so I had quiet the plumbers crack going. So, he pours that shit down my ass crack. BELIEVE ME, DO NOT GET THAT SHIT IN YOUR ASS CRACK! It blistered and swelled up and I couldnt lay or sit on my ass for a few days.

Primering and body work is not that hard...but you have to have patience and time. My brother got a free 1992 camero and it had many dents and a half ass paintjob. After about a month he had the whole thing smoothed out and primered all by himself. My brother is only 16 and worked on it a few days out of the week and you can't even tell there were dents. So if you have the time and patience go for it by youself because, it is a hell of alot cheaper than a body shop who will charge you for everything down to "toxic waste disposal."
