Removing crankshaft bolt problems

I am changing the timing belt on a 95 cirrus 2.5l v6 and am trying to get the crankshaft bolt out. I've changed timing belts on a number of cars but this one seems very tight. I've wedged a screwdriver in place to keep the crank fron turning (as per Haynes manual). It keeps it nice and steady but I just snapped off the press on shaft on my ratchet. Are these things meant to be that tight or are they reverse threaded as some driveshaft bolts are? I don't want to break the bolt. Any advice?

yeah, you've got a really tight one. try getting a cheater bar along w/ your breaker bar and use that cheater bar to give you extra leverage. I use like a piece of pipe that'll go inside of the breaker bar and just pull w/ all your might, it'll eventually break, just take some elbow grease to get it going.
