AC BELT Question

Hey Friends

Posted a question that got an answer to yesterday...thanks.

I am certainly not a mechanic...I am content paying someone else to repair my vehicles...just very nice to know what is going on so you dont feel taken advantage of by the Shop's.

On my Yukon XL ('01), I thought it strange that my AC stopped working all of a sudden. Wife was driving at the time...said she heard no noises...just stopped working (blows hot).

Upon observation under the hood, I know there is a serpentine belt that turns a series of flywheels. The AC looks like it has its own belt independant from the main serpentine belt (not connected to the series of the serpentine belt).

Question: Does the AC have its own belt? (if it does then this would be the source of the problem because it is missing).

Please advise.

Thanks again in advance...wish I could contribute something here...for now only taking...sorry.

PS- how much should I expect for replacement?

Yes the a/c has it own belt; however, you should beware that the belt "may" have come off due to a compressor problem.

www.rockauto.com shows the belt costing around $10.
