maintenance required

Hey guys, i just got a 98 Honda Accord Coupe. There is a Maint Req'd Indicator. I know i need to have it checked up but a friend told me that there is a way to pre set it. What do you guys advise. Also, the audio button on the steering wheel is not working? How can i do it myself if ever. Thanks.....

With the ignition OFF
Left hand press & hold the trip reset button
Right hand turn the ignition on(do not start)
Continue holding trip reset until light goes off
