hi all , i have a b2200 with at 5l mustang eng and tranny , but i have been using the stock mazda rear end. Very few complaints but i have just blown the side gears in the rear end , I was wondering if mazda made a 'posi' unit for these trucks and if it would be stronger ??
I would really like to have a ford 8.8 posi back there but right now it would cost more than i have to do the conversion, i was hoping to get a line on a mazda posi and hopefully it will last a bit longer.
If anyone knows of a conversion that will take the punishment that the v8 and my foot dishes out please let me know
thanks
Andrew

The B2200 and B2600 have a 7.75" rear end in it designed very similar to a ford 9". I think some of the eurpean B2600 models came with an LSD (posi) rear end. You would probably have to ask some of the guys on my forum. I think Lasse ownes one. There is also a post somewhere in that same section of someone who sells a posi differential, I think it cost about $400-$500. I would think though that if you blew the spider gears out of it without posi you'll probably blow them out again just as fast with both tires trying to hook up. Also note that the posi diff is probably a 4.44 ratio and not a 3.909 used in the B2200/2000 so your going to be putting a lot more torque to the rear end.
It is a good possability that the backlash on your rear end needed to be adjusted and may have aided in its destruction. If you replace it with another mazda rearend I would definatly check it out before you install it and make sure its up to par, the backlash between the ring and pinion should be about .010" for your application you might want to try going with abotu .008" or so and run synthetic gear lube so it can handle the decrease in clearance.

Actually now that I think about it because you didn't have some sort of LSD rear end when you break traction on one tire because the other one is stopped the one spinning is going twice as fast as if both where spinning at the same time. A stock LSD differential may hold up better because it won't be spinning twice as fast as what it should be.
